Happy Monday from New York City!

I’m back home after a weekend in Palm Beach that included a stay at an iconic hotel, a fun wedding, and some much-needed sunshine.

It also reinforced why you should avoid LaGuardia right now.

I’ve got the latest on TSA waits, a last-chance limited-time offer, and more waiting for you below.

In this edition

Last chance: 75k bonus miles + $250 travel credit

One of the simplest — and most rewarding — sign-up bonuses is ending soon.

You can get at least $1,000 in travel rewards, and potentially much more depending on how you redeem, after signing up for just one credit card and meeting the minimum spend.

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is currently offering new cardholders:

  • 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 in the first three months

  • $250 to use on Capital One Travel in your first cardholder year

Better yet, the card carries just a $95 annual fee.

Book Lufthansa First Class using Capital One Miles

You can redeem the bonus miles directly with Capital One for up to $750 toward travel. Or you can get even more value from the miles by transferring them to 15+ partners. (I send most of my Cap One miles to Air Canada and regularly redeem them for at least 2 cents/mile.)

The Venture card earns 2x miles per dollar on all purchases and 5x miles on select Capital One Travel bookings.

The offer ends April 13, so act now before it’s too late!

TSA relief, but not everywhere

TSA agents are starting to receive back pay this week.

That’s helped alleviate some of the crazy lines we’ve seen, but this saga is far from over.

  • Hundreds of TSA agents quit during the shutdown. It’s not like they’re going to be replaced overnight.

  • There’s now much more inconsistency in TSA lines. For weeks, I told you to avoid Atlanta, Houston, JFK, and LaGuardia. Now, every airport I’m tracking seems to have its own unpredictable crunch periods.

  • Avoid early morning flights. For instance, waits at LaGuardia’s Terminal B and JFK’s Terminal 5 are still regularly topping 90 minutes in the morning, even for Precheck.

My free live TSA tracker continues to deliver up-to-the-minute wait times.

Better yet, I restored live feeds for JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark, so you no longer have to rely on backup data for those airports.

Avoid LaGuardia right now

Speaking of New York airports, now isn’t the time to fly through LaGuardia.

Aside from the consistently long TSA lines (especially in the morning), the airport has also been struggling to maintain normal operations throughout the day following the tragic Air Canada collision.

Since the crash, LaGuardia has essentially been under a daily nationwide ground delay program, with average delays often topping three hours. Many afternoon and evening arrivals haven’t been getting in until 1 a.m. or later.

And that’s after the affected runway (4/22) reopened.

I flew into LGA yesterday with just a 30-minute delay, but scores of other passengers weren’t as lucky.

Beware of this scam

This one nearly got me, so consider yourself warned.

Over the weekend, I received texts from Cardless and Bilt asking me to confirm a recent transaction.

“Cardless: Did you use card 4726 for $258.54 at AT&T, on 03/27? Reply YES or NO”

I first checked my account, didn’t see a pending AT&T charge, and replied no.

Then I got another message.

Confirm the code we’ve sent you to reject the transaction immediately.

At the same time, I received a six-digit two-factor authentication code from Bilt that I almost sent to the scammer.

Here’s the thing: if this had come from Amex, Chase, or Capital One, I probably would’ve been less suspicious. I would’ve also received an email, and the whole thing would’ve looked more official.

But with Bilt and Cardless, the communication can sometimes feel a bit startup-y. So I’m very glad I caught this before I made a huge mistake and someone drained my Bilt Rewards account.

Last call: Expiring credits

I can’t believe it’s basically April already. Which means that you have 48 hours left to enjoy your March and use your quarterly credit card credits.

The big ones expiring on March 31 include:

  • The American Express Platinum Card®

    • $100 Resy credit

    • $75 Lululemon credit

  • The Business Platinum Card® from American Express

    • $90 Indeed credit

    • $50 Hilton credit

  • Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card

    • $50 flight credit

  • Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card

    • $50 Hilton property credit

  • The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card

    • $60 Hilton property credit

Also, March 31 is your last day to maximize your Chase Freedom Flex® first-quarter 5x spending categories (dining, Norwegian Cruise Line, American Heart Association) on up to $1,500 in spend.

Of course, don’t forget to use your monthly credits too.

A better United meal hack

The biggest complaint I consistently hear from United passengers is that the catering is inconsistent at best.

Well, here’s how to fix it now. If you’re departing from Newark, order the Kosher meal (even if you don’t keep Kosher).

Why? Because it’s consistently better than the standard option.

United partners with Fresko in Newark, and I’ve had some genuinely good meals from them over the years, including just last week from Newark to Los Angeles.

I wouldn’t count on the same results from other hubs or outstations, and I also wouldn’t recommend ordering Kosher during Passover, which begins later this week.

🗞️ News you can use

  • National’s best promo is back: My favorite car rental agency just launched my favorite annual promotion. National’s “one, two, free” promo is back. You receive one free day for every two rentals (that are 2+ days long). Be sure to enroll first.

  • Air Canada CEO is out: In the wake of the Air Canada crash, CEO Michael Rousseau has come under renewed fire for his inability to speak French. This isn’t the first time Rousseau has faced criticism on that front, but this time it cost him his job. There are at least two Marks (Galardo and Nasr) at Air Canada who could be strong replacements. I just can’t vouch for their French.

  • Starlink continues to shine: I’m absolutely loving how quickly airlines are getting on the Starlink bandwagon. The latest carrier to debut this high-speed Wi-Fi is Aer Lingus. I just wish American and Delta would cut their losses, ditch Viasat, and invest in Starlink (or Amazon Leo). No other provider comes close.
