Why does it always feel like so much is happening in the travel world?
I guess that’s good for job security, but I’m already missing our family vacation in Argentina.
I’ve got another stacked newsletter below, with the latest on American’s wild upgrade promo, Chase’s big fix, flight status updates, and much more.
In this edition
American’s wild upgrade promo
American is offering confirmed business-class upgrades on most long-haul international flights booked today for travel in August.
Here’s how it works:
You need to book premium economy
Business-class seats need to be available for sale
You must waitlist a systemwide upgrade by midnight on Wednesday to qualify
Systemwide upgrades are available to Platinum Pro, Executive Platinum, and Concierge Key members.

I’ve never seen American run such a generous offer.
Maybe the airline is struggling to fill August long-haul flights. After all, executives keep saying summer demand is shifting earlier. Or maybe American just wants to see whether travelers will buy premium economy to improve their upgrade odds.
Either way, this Executive Platinum member took the bait. We’re headed to Greece in August and just booked some placeholder flights using the promo. (And yes, I’m taking island recs — we’ve already done Mykonos, Santorini, and Paros.)
Meet me at the Landing
I visited the Capital One Landing in LaGuardia last week and came away seriously impressed.

For one, there was no line to enter. The food and drinks rival what you’d find in a real restaurant, and I loved the design. I could’ve sat there for hours just watching the planes.
In my mind, the Capital One Landing is probably the most innovative new lounge concept we’ve seen yet. (It’s similar, but much bigger, than Sidecar by The Centurion Lounge.)

If you want access, you should pick up the $395-a-year Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card for complimentary access (for the cardholder).
Alternatively, you could get the $95-a-year Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and pay a discounted $45 access rate to enter the Landing.
Capital One also operates a Landing in DCA, along with lounges in IAD, JFK, LAS, DEN, and DFW.
Chase’s overdue fix
Chase just solved one of my biggest pet peeves. (You heard it here first.)
In the past, authorized users received the same card number as the primary cardholder. That made it nearly impossible to tell who made which purchase on your statement. Worse, if one card was lost or stolen, everyone’s cards had to be replaced.
Fortunately, that’s changing.
Chase is now issuing separate card numbers for authorized users.
This applies to new applicants and to newly issued cards for many existing Chase cardmembers with authorized users.
Here’s my complete list of top recommended credit cards. (And thanks, as always, for using these links to support my work.)
A transparency upgrade
American just fixed one of the most annoying parts of flying — but only halfway.
The airline will now tell you why your flight is delayed or canceled, but only for the flight you originally booked.
That means if you’re checking the status of other flights, the delay reason still won’t appear.

That feels like a big miss, and one I’d expect American to fix sooner rather than later. During irregular operations, I rely on posted delay reasons to figure out whether it makes sense to switch to another flight.
Still, I’m somewhat surprised to see American beat Delta to this feature.
If American really wants to catch up, though, it should take a page from United. Right now, United does this best.
My Buenos Aires recs
We just got back from a week exploring Buenos Aires, and I left even more impressed than I was last time.
I’ve already shared how the flights went (our outbound was much easier than the return), along with a recap of our stay at the Park Hyatt Buenos Aires.
Now, you’ll find my activity and dining recs below.

As always, my newsletters are archived — so if you want to reference this later, bookmark this link and search for Argentina or Buenos Aires.

🗞️ News you can use
First, a correction: In Monday’s edition of FTTT, I noted that Southwest had started flying to Chicago O’Hare and Washington Dulles during the pandemic. That’s not true. Dulles service actually began in 2006, but it’s still being cut on June 4 due to poor performance.
Breeze’s fifth international destination: Breeze Airways is adding service to San Jose, Costa Rica (from Tampa). San Jose will become Breeze’s fifth international destination after Cancun, Montego Bay, Nassau, and Punta Cana.
British Airways’ winter expansion: British Airways is expanding service to Baltimore (going daily in the winter), New Orleans (four flights per week), and Houston (12 flights per week). The carrier is also adding a unique fifth-freedom route from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, Australia.
“Mini Mint” is almost here: JetBlue’s domestic first class is scheduled to be unveiled later this year. The latest update is that the airline is planning 12-16 first-class recliners on each jet, up from the original eight to 12 seats. (Premium really is the biggest buzzword right now.)
