The end is near for the best points-earning offer we've seen so far this year.

Chase just told me that this is your last chance to take advantage of the limited-time 100,000-point welcome offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

The issuer is officially pulling the plug on this deal on Thursday, July 30, at 3 p.m. ET, so even the procrastinators don't have much time to waste.

I've already shared plenty of reasons why I think this deal is worth it, but I'll recap the basics below if you've been on the fence.

The TL;DR: this offer appeals to beginners, intermediates, and advanced travelers — and it's why I've given it so much ink.

The 100K offer, recapped

Here's the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card offer: earn 100,000 bonus Chase points after spending $5,000 within the first three months.

That's a huge haul of points, especially considering the card has just a $95 annual fee.

Six-figure bonuses don't come around too frequently, but when they do, they usually come on cards with a $300+ annual fee.

This deal is straightforward to maximize. (It's just the third time ever that Chase has gone this high on the Preferred card.)

Reasonable annual fee

I mentioned this above, but it's worth repeating. The Preferred has just a $95 annual fee.

And before you worry that Chase is about to hike it, the issuer just revamped the card (in a good way) and kept the $95 annual fee intact.

Even if you don't use a single benefit on the card (which would be silly since there's a ton of value), you'd still net 100,000 bonus points after picking it up and completing the minimum spend.

My minimum-spend playbook

I grabbed the card myself and just earned the welcome bonus.

Here's how to hit it as well:

  • Save your largest bills for the sign-up bonus

    • This includes estimated taxes, tuition, medical bills, or even daycare (yes, it's pricey!)

  • Pre-pay insurance bills or other outstanding balances now

    • Switch from monthly payments to a single payment to hit the minimum

  • Remember the timeline

    • You have three months from when the account is opened to hit the $5,000 minimum spend, so large charges through late October should count toward the bonus.

Reserve cardholders: read this

If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, you're eligible to open the Preferred and collect the bonus.

This is a recent change to Chase's rules, and it makes way more people — myself included — eligible for this bonus. (The one caveat: you can't have earned a sign-up bonus on the Preferred before.)

The Reserve is a card for intermediate and advanced travelers, but it pairs nicely with the Preferred, regardless of who you are.

I’ll share a breakdown of how to maximize both cards next week.

Yes, you can pool points

I've been getting tons of questions about this.

You can pool your Chase points across any accounts in your name, plus with a spouse, partner, or family member living at the same address.

You just need to call Chase to link your accounts.

So if you have the Preferred but your partner doesn't yet, they can grab it, and you can pool all the points.

The benefits stack

One of the reasons I'm so excited by this offer is because the points are just the icing on the cake.

The card has a stacked list of benefits that punch way above their weight for a $95 annual-fee card. Three of the biggest ones:

  • No foreign transaction fees, making it the perfect companion abroad.

  • Emergency evacuation and transportation coverage is included when you pay for your trip with the Preferred. If a covered traveler is injured or falls ill on a trip 100 miles or more from home and requires emergency evacuation, they're covered for medical services and transportation up to $100,000.

  • Trip delay protection reimburses up to $500 per ticket for unexpected expenses such as meals, alternative transportation, and hotels.

    • It kicks in if your flight is canceled or delayed 12 hours or more. Just pay for your ticket (or the taxes on an award ticket) with the Preferred.

Everything, at a glance

Here’s everything you need to know about the Preferred card, aside from the offer itself.

  • Reasonable annual fee: Just $95 a year.

  • Easy-to-use credits: Up to $100/year in Chase Travel℠ hotel credits. $120 credit every four years for Global Entry, TSA Precheck, or NEXUS. Complimentary year of Apple TV (must activate it by Dec. 31, 2026)

  • Points earning:

    • 5x on Chase Travel

    • 3x on dining worldwide

    • 3x on online grocery purchases (excluding Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs)

    • 3x on select streaming services

    • 3x on gas, EV charging, and vacation homes (eligible brands: Airbnb, Vrbo, Plum Guide, HomeAway, Homestay.com, and Vacasa)

  • Ongoing value: See benefits section above.

Quick FAQs

Since the offer debuted, I've received a lot of questions. Here are answers to the ones I hear most.

  • What's the 5/24 rule, and does it apply here?

    • If you've opened five or more new credit cards across any issuer in the last 24 months, Chase will likely deny your application. This applies to nearly every Chase card, not just the Sapphire family.

  • If I just opened a new Chase Sapphire Reserve®, can I get this offer?

    • Ideally, you'd space out new cards. But with this offer ending soon, it's worth trying now.

  • Does being an authorized user on someone else's Sapphire Preferred affect my eligibility?

    • No. If your spouse or partner added you to their Preferred years ago, you're still eligible for this 100,000-point offer as a new primary cardholder.

  • Can I downgrade my Reserve and get the bonus?

    • No. The welcome bonus is only available for new accounts.

  • Can both my partner and I get the card?

    • Yes, you and your partner should both open new accounts. Then, you can pool the points after completing the minimum spend.
