Is there anything better than a Friday, especially when it's finally going to be warm and sunny in New York this weekend?
I've been getting tons of questions about the new best-ever credit card welcome bonus, so I just updated my review with a fresh FAQ section.
That'll make for a great weekend read, along with everything else below.

A giveaway for you
I'm not a soccer fan, but I hear there's something big happening this summer for those who follow the "other" type of football.
American Airlines is leaning in with new soccer-themed amenity kits that double as clear, security-cleared bags for World Cup stadiums.
I went to an event celebrating the tie-up, and American still likes me enough (after this negative review) to gift me a collection of the new kits.

Problem is, my wife only allows two shelves' worth of travel tchotchkes — and they're already full.
So, want the new amenity kits? I'll mail them to the person who refers the most new subscribers to my newsletter. Just click the button below to share.
Clever upgrade hack
Last week, I flew Delta from New York to Atlanta and decided to upgrade my economy ticket for $155.88 each way.
Gate to gate, the flight was 2.5 hours.
Personally, $50 per hour is my ceiling for a domestic recliner upgrade, so this just overshot it. (But, I bit the bullet when the only economy seat left was a middle.)
Honestly, first class was exactly what I needed. The larger recliner made it much easier to work with a real tray table.
And for everyone worried about Delta's service culture slipping: I saw zero evidence of it. I received pre-departure beverages on both flights, and my water was topped off without asking.
Want to know the hack?
When I booked, the economy and first-class fares were $209 and $635, respectively.
That first-class fare was way out of From the Tray Table’s budget, but something interesting happened.
I bought the economy ticket and immediately pulled up the seat map to see the upgrade price.

Delta was selling it for $155.88, making my all-in cost $365. I literally saved over $270 by upgrading after purchase.
If you're trying to upgrade, check both options before locking it in. (Remember, you can always book economy and cancel within 24 hours if the buy-up offer disappoints.)
What would you pay to upgrade to first on a 2-hour flight?
This tiny new power bank
I recently published my May edit with top spring and summer picks for men, women, and kids.
I've been getting questions about the gear I've been using, so here's a quick update on something I just clipped onto my backpack.
It’s TwelveSouth’s new PowerClip, a tiny emergency power bank that delivers up to 30% charge on the go.

I could see this coming in handy when your phone is dying, and you're trying to call an Uber.
It comes in five colors and costs just $39.99.
For those unfamiliar, TwelveSouth also makes AirFly, the dongle that connects your wireless headphones to airplane TVs.
United 💙 JetBlue, finally
Your airline status just got way more valuable.
At long last, your United and JetBlue status will now work on either airline.
The benefits list is rich, especially the free same-day change perk that would otherwise cost $75.
Japan’s new nonstop
Japan's most iconic winter destination is getting its first nonstop flights from the continental U.S.
That's (unsurprisingly) courtesy of United, which thinks of its routes as "fun content" rather than just new airports.
Three-weekly flights from San Francisco to Sapporo launch Dec. 11 on a non-Elevated Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
I loved skiing in Niseko last year, and I bet this one's a winner.
Delta's grab-and-go miss
Passing through Atlanta recently, I stopped by the Delta Sky Club in Concourse B.
Instead of heading upstairs into the (overcrowded) club, I was greeted by a grab-and-go takeaway station.

The food options were pretty limited — think PB&J sandwiches, fruit cups, and garden salads — and you could visit either the Sky Club or the express option, but not both.
I love a grab-and-go concept, but this space is (shockingly) far more basic than what American and United offer.
Delta Sky Clubs are the best in the industry. Why can't the takeaway section match?
💡 Tray Table Tip: Four days left!
This is your final weekend to lock in current Hyatt awards before the new, pricier chart kicks in on Wednesday, May 20.
Better yet, you might not even need the points in your account to grab today's rates.
Here are five properties I'm eyeing for a speculative booking:
If you're a World of Hyatt elite, you can make a Points Advance reservation that lets you lock in today's rate and redeem the points just two weeks before your trip. (You may even be able to convince an agent to make a Points Advance booking without status.)
Remember: Bilt points and one popular bank's points transfer instantly 1:1 to Hyatt. Don't procrastinate on this one.
🗞️ News you can use
Luxe Marriott all-inclusive: The first-ever JW Marriott all-inclusive is now open for booking, with stays starting Oct. 15. It's located in Costa Rica and looks really nice. I haven't been to an all-inclusive in over five years, but the photos have me reconsidering.
Delta said no to Starlink: If you believe Elon Musk, Delta passed on Starlink because it wanted a "painful, difficult, and expensive" login experience that violates Starlink's terms. Delta denies the claim.
Either way, I firmly believe Delta should've acquiesced. Now it's going to be years behind United when it finally rolls out Amazon Leo Wi-Fi (across just half its fleet).
