Welcome back to another edition of FTTT!
Eagle-eyed readers may notice the updated logo. I was flattered this week when a reader sent me an email addressed to “Zach and team.”
So I figured I’d reply by updating the logo. (Just kidding.)
While this may be a one-man show, it really does take a village. So I’m super appreciative of you, the community, that’s been so engaged and excited about my work.
Personally, I spent the last 48 hours bouncing between last-minute holiday-related appointments and errands, like the haircut I got yesterday and the $30 tip I left my barber. (Some people replied to my Instagram post saying that’s too low.)
I still managed to publish and follow some pretty exciting stories, including From the Tray Table’s first (of hopefully many) exclusives.
There’s a lot to catch you up on, so here goes.

Free points, no card required
This may sound too good to be true, but I’ve been using the Bilt loyalty program recently to double- and triple-dip on earning points. For free. With no specific credit card required. All to fund my next vacation.
Let me explain.
Earn Bilt points for free
You might remember Bilt as the company behind the points-for-rent credit card, but Bilt is now so much more than that.
You can now sign up for a free rewards account — no credit check, rental apartment, or application required – and start earning some of the most valuable points in the game.
You then link your credit (or debit) card, and you’ll earn Bilt points automatically at more than 20,000 local restaurants, Walgreens purchases, and select fitness studios.
Bilt Rewards operates in addition to whatever credit card points you’d normally earn, so there’s no downside to signing up and linking a card.
When you sign up, you might as well also link your Lyft account to Bilt to earn (at minimum) two extra Bilt points per dollar spent on Lyft rides.
And, if you also link your Rakuten account to Bilt, your cash back will be converted to Bilt points, which are actually far more valuable than you might think.
Redeeming Bilt points
Bilt points can be redeemed directly via the company’s travel portal at 1.25 cents each toward any travel. Or you can transfer them to 24 airline and hotel partners.
I generally send my Bilt points to Alaska to book cheap American awards, but the possibilities are really endless. (In the U.S., Bilt points instantly transfer 1:1 to Alaska, Southwest, Spirit, United, Hyatt, IHG, Marriott, and Hilton.)
Getting started in 3 steps
If you don’t have a Bilt account yet, don’t fret.
Here’s my free and simple three-step checklist to start earning now. It took my wife less than five minutes to complete all three steps.
Sign up for a free Bilt Rewards account (you don’t need to be a renter to have one)
Link one (or more) cards
Connect your Lyft and Rakuten profiles to your Bilt account for extra bonus points
As always, let me know if you have any questions by simply replying to this email.
And pro tip: you and your partner can each have your own Bilt accounts to boost your earnings.

Premium may be the airline industry’s biggest buzzword right now. And American Airlines wants you to believe it’s on that bandwagon.
In an exclusive interview, American’s new senior vice president for customer experience shared a slew of updates coming to the carrier’s lounge network — a key component of its premium strategy.
It starts with the renovation and expansion of the Concourse D Admirals Club at its DCA hub. The outpost will reopen with 50% more seats and feature American’s stylish new design.
But while next year’s lounge updates may start with this DCA location, the airline has lots more coming. Think: more Provisions outposts, an update on Flagship First Dining, and much more.

Upgrade giveaway is here!

At long last, it’s time to officially commence my annual holiday upgrade giveaway.
This year, I primarily received donations of United PlusPoints from Premier 1K and Platinum members. (Unfortunately, I haven’t received any points from Global Services members, nor has anyone pledged American upgrades.)
This means that I’m only opening the upgrade giveaway for United-operated flights.
And before we start spreading the holiday cheer, I want to remind you of the ground rules.
To be eligible for an upgrade, you (and the friends you tell about this promotion) must be an active subscriber to this newsletter.
You must fill out the upgrade request form linked below.
There must be upgrade space available on your flight.
The flight must be on or before Jan. 31, 2026.
Not every upgrade request will be upgraded, and as in years past, there is no bartering for upgrades. This is purely a pay-it-forward initiative I organize each year.
News you can use
Frontier’s no-notice CEO transition: Frontier Airlines announced on Monday that its long-time CEO, Barry Biffle, is leaving — with just about two weeks’ notice. No one has really reported on the backstory (aside from reiterating that Biffle isn’t departing due to a performance or policy issue). James Dempsey is now Frontier’s interim CEO, effective immediately. I’ll be curious to see what, if anything, Biffle is up to next.
Redeem points on airBaltic: Air Canada’s Aeroplan loyalty program is adding yet another new redemption option — airBaltic. I’ve had good experiences on airBaltic in the past, and love that I’ll be able to combine a Star Alliance transatlantic flight to Europe with an airBaltic connection in the future. (I’ve previously booked airBaltic flights with Air France Flying Blue miles.)
American’s year-in-review: Spotify may have popularized Wrapped, but now every company is getting it on the end-of-year recap trend. This includes American Airlines, which sent year-in-review emails on Monday. Mine says I enjoyed six free upgrades and nine visits to the Admirals Club. Sadly, my go-to aircraft was the Boeing 737.
United app improvements: United’s mobile app is among the best in the biz. And it’s getting better just in time for the holidays. Several noteworthy new features include club capacity trackers and live boarding statuses showing how many people have boarded your flight. United didn’t announce a big feature coming next year — a new family management tool — that I discovered and added to my coverage.
Finally, congrats to Linda McGurk! On Monday, I said that I’d randomly pick a reader who refers a friend to this newsletter to win the stocked swag bag I received at the American A321XLR event. Linda was the lucky winner that the random number generator picked.
Like giveaways? I have a few more planned shortly, so keep referring.
