Hello again from 30,000 feet.

This time, I'm heading to Minneapolis for a quick day trip, which meant a 4:45 a.m. alarm for my 7:10 a.m. flight.

On paper, I love early flights: less traffic, a lower chance of delays, and quieter airports.

But am I the only one who can't sleep the night before? I tend to wake up every hour to make sure I didn't sleep through my alarm.

It could just be my OCD, but I wish someone had a good fix for this. Hit reply if that’s you.

Goodbye to the worst business class

At long last, British Airways is one step closer to retiring its outdated 2-4-2 business class — the one with middle seats and window seats that force you to climb over your neighbor.

The airline is retrofitting its entire fleet of Airbus A380s, and the first refreshed jet will take to the skies in the coming months.

Here's what's coming:

  • The world's largest business-class cabin: A new 1-2-1 layout spanning the entire upper deck, split into four smaller cabins. Its 106 individual pods add a few more bells and whistles compared to the existing Club Suite.

  • A new first-class product: 12 suites, including center pairs with a divider that drops to create a shared, sofa-style space.

  • Refreshed premium economy and economy: Wider seats, privacy wings in premium, larger screens, and upgraded tech.

Delta and United fight it out

Delta and United are fighting again. This time, the battlefield is a small Arizona city. (On Monday, it was a free status match for disgruntled Delta flyers.)

Last Thursday, Delta announced service to Flagstaff. (It'll launch twice-daily flights from Salt Lake City on June 7, 2027.)

That wasn't totally out of the blue. Flagstaff's airport spent $1.3 million (most of it from a federal grant) courting a new route to Salt Lake City or Denver.

Then, over the weekend, United quietly filed plans to resume Denver to Flagstaff flights on Aug. 10, 2027. (Flagstaff was one of the more than 35 U.S. cities United cut in the wake of the pandemic.)

Sure, Flagstaff is an ideal launching point for outdoor adventures and Grand Canyon trips. But United's sudden return feels a lot more like protecting turf than a newfound belief in the market. (Unless United is also getting some of that grant?)

Passport stamps are gone

The U.S. is officially phasing out routine passport stamps.

The change mostly affects visitors who can't use the biometric or Global Entry lanes — everyone else hasn't gotten a stamp in years.

It's the latest in a string of changes coming to the passport. I'm not surprised by this one, though for nostalgia’s sake, I will miss physical stamps.

That said, I'm far more excited about one of these three big changes coming in the months ahead.

Charlotte's overdue upgrade

If you've passed through Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) recently, you probably walked away disappointed.

The airport and its clubs are overflowing during peak departure banks.

The good news is that American is finally giving CLT the glow-up it needs. The airline is building a 40,000-square-foot Admirals Club — its largest yet — plus a higher-end Flagship Lounge.

Charlotte does have a few gems, like the new A gates, American's grab-and-go Provisions outpost, and the Delta Sky Club.

But American's investment can't come soon enough.

💡 Tray Table Tip: Maximize meal vouchers

If an airline has ever handed you a meal voucher, chances are you didn't maximize it.

(But that's why subscribing to this newsletter pays off. Tell your friends to hit subscribe, too.)

The rules around these vouchers are onerous. They typically expire within 24 hours and can be used only once, even if there's money left over after your purchase.

Here's the best way to use one: Load the full value onto your favorite food app. As long as the merchant codes as dining, the voucher should go through.

Whether it's Starbucks, Dunkin', or your favorite local restaurant, just make sure to reload before the voucher expires.
