I just got back from a few days in Rome (following the Alaska Airlines inaugural flight), and everyone’s been asking me for my list of recommendations.
I also folded in some of the most popular suggestions readers shared when I asked for recs.
Here’s the full list.

🏨 Where to stay in Rome
The points game in Rome is tougher than you'd expect.
Marriott has the most options, IHG and Hyatt have a few solid picks, and the boutique scene is packed with cash-only stays worth considering.
The St. Regis Rome – Marriott's flagship in the city, recently refreshed. The grand-dame option.
The Rome EDITION – Stylish Marriott property in a great location. Pricey on points and cash.
Hotel d'Inghilterra – Classy boutique just off the Spanish Steps.
InterContinental Ambasciatori Palace – The IHG points play. Solid value if you've got a stash.
The Tribune – Hyatt's only good points option in Rome, and it punches above its weight.
Hotel de la Ville – One of the most iconic hotels in the city. No great points play, but the rooftop is worth it.
🍽️ Eat & drink in Rome
Roscioli – Iconic deli with one of the most hyped cacio e pepes in the city. Worth the reservation hassle.
Felice a Testaccio – Roman classics done right. Get the cacio e pepe, finished tableside.
Da Enzo al 29 – A Trastevere institution. Tiny, no-frills, and consistently great.
Tonnarello – Casual Trastevere spot with reliably good pasta and a lively vibe.
Pizzeria Emma – My casual pizza pick. Roman-style, thin and crispy.
Armando al Pantheon – Old-school Roman cooking just steps from the Pantheon.
Matricianella – Excellent pasta and a more refined room. Good for a sit-down dinner.
Dar Poeta – Trastevere pizza staple. Loyal local following for a reason.
Ar Galletto – Classic Roman, beautiful piazza setting.
Forno Campo de' Fiori – The morning move. Get the pizza bianca.
Two Sizes – Tiny tiramisu shop with long lines that move quickly.
Gelateria La Romana – My pick for the best gelato in the city.
Giolitti – Historic gelateria near the Pantheon. Touristy but legitimately good.
Frigidarium – Worth the line. Get yours dipped in chocolate.
📍 What to do in Rome
Pantheon – Expect a wait, even with tickets. Still worth it.
Vatican Museums – Book the earliest slot you can. The crowds are no joke by mid-morning.
Colosseum + Roman Forum – Aim for golden hour. The light is unreal.
Trastevere – Just wander. Cobblestone streets, ivy-covered walls, the best people-watching in the city.
Villa Borghese – Reserve the gallery in advance, then enjoy the park.
Campo de' Fiori market – Morning produce market. Skip the tourist stalls; the real action is in the back.
Jewish Ghetto – Layered history and one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in the city.
Spanish Steps + Trevi Fountain – Go at night. The crowds during the day are brutal.
Castel Sant'Angelo – Best city views at golden hour.
LabSolue Perfume Laboratory – A cool fragrance lab that's worth the detour if you're into scent.
