United Elevated is here

United is making a massive bet that the seemingly insatiable premium demand trends we've seen in recent years are here to stay.

To that end, the airline just formally announced its first Elevated Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flights.

This will be the most premium-heavy jet in the country — and it’s not even close. It features a whopping 99 premium seats compared to just 84 in regular economy.

The plane features an all-new business-class-plus product, dubbed Polaris Studio, as well as upgraded regular Polaris pods, new premium economy recliners, and much more.

Initially, the Elevated jets will be based in San Francisco.

They’ll launch on the following long-haul routes. Tickets are on sale now.

  • San Francisco to Singapore: April 22 (UA 1)

  • San Francisco to London: April 30 (UA 901)

Starting on March 29, United plans to deploy the Elevated jet on domestic service between San Francisco and Houston for crew familiarization purposes. I’d expect plenty of free upgrades if you’re flying this Dreamliner domestically!

$499 for what…

With the introduction of the Polaris Studio, United will be offering an all-new cabin experience.

The seats are the biggest in the United fleet, and they'll feature a slew of extra amenities, including:

  • 27-inch 4K TVs

  • Caviar service

  • Access to Global Reception VIP check-in areas

  • Exclusive PJs and amenity kits

  • United-branded playing cards

Plus, six of the eight seats offer an ottoman with a seatbelt for companions.

When United unveiled the Polaris Studio, it said it would reveal pricing details in the future.

Well, here's the launch pricing: $499 for the seat assignment — on top of the Polaris fare. At that price, I’d probably try it once for the novelty.

(And yes, you earn extra Premier Qualifying Points from the seat purchase.)

What’s next for the ME3?

Here’s a question I haven’t seen many people asking: what happens to Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways once this conflict is over?

Not in the next few weeks, but in the months and years that follow. How long will it take for travelers to feel comfortable connecting in the Gulf again? And what does that mean for the Europeans who typically winter there?

My guess: any recovery will be slow and uneven.

I’m curious where you land. Tap the option below that fits you best.

How soon after the war ends would you feel comfortable flying through the Gulf?

Skip the lounge line

If you’re still waiting in line to use the airport lounge, you’re doing it wrong.

Two of the three biggest card issuers (looking at you, Chase) allow you to join the lounge waitlist before you even get to the airport.

Capital One just released a brand-new Capital One Travel app that puts the lounge experience front and center.

Amex also lets you join the waitlist from the app, but navigating the process is a bit more convoluted.

Either way, there’s no reason to wait until you arrive at the lounge to join the waitlist. (See, I told you subscribing to FTTT will make you a better traveler.)

Chase gets healthy

Chase has seemingly been on a health kick recently.

The issuer is out with a new offer on its Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

Through March 31, Sapphire Reserve cardholders can receive 50% cash back on a Function Health subscription (normally $365 a year).

Sapphire Preferred cardmembers get just 15% cash back. Make sure to activate the offer before making a purchase.

This is similar to how Chase launched a Sapphire-exclusive offer for Whoop recently, which is still available through May 12.

Underused SkyMiles perk

Did you know that you can earn 2,500 bonus SkyMiles on every single trip?

All you need to do is check a bag and hope it reaches the belt more than 20 minutes after you pull up at the gate. It’s part of Delta’s 20-Minute Bag Guarantee.

To claim your miles, you’ll need to fill out an easy online form. That form used to be available within 72 hours of your arrival.

Now, Delta confirms that it’ll only accept submissions within two hours of arrival. Sure, this adds another hurdle, but at least Delta didn’t cut the long-standing program.

🗞️ News you can use

  • Frontier’s four new routes: Frontier is adding four new routes starting in May, some of which appear aimed at markets Spirit recently exited or cut back. The new routes are:

    • Dallas/Fort Worth - Newark

    • Dallas/Fort Worth - Orange County

    • Fort Lauderdale - Washington Dulles

    • Nashville - Las Vegas

  • Starlink on BA is here: British Airways just flew its first Starlink-equipped flight on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to Houston. Within two years, every British Airways jet will feature Starlink, which will be a big upgrade. As long-time readers know, I believe there's really only one long-term inflight Wi-Fi solution: low-earth orbit satellite providers like Starlink and Amazon Leo.

  • What the FOX? Project FOX, or Future Onboard Experience, is Lufthansa's latest campaign to improve the passenger experience across all of its long-haul flights. Beyond announcing a new amenity kit partnership with Babor, the airline has little else to share yet. Lufthansa says it wants to become Europe’s top airline. For now, though, this still feels more like a teaser than a meaningful product update.

  • Avelo adds two destinations: Budget carrier Avelo announced service to Cleveland and Indianapolis from New Haven and Concord, North Carolina, starting June 18. Not the sexiest routes, but more options are better than fewer.
